Val Gardena DH Day 1 - Odermatt's Dominance Continues

Notes

  • The Ciaslat claims its first victim - Daniel Hemetsberger bib #10. He's up, uninjured and seems more angered by the mistake than anything else.

  • Odermatt takes the lead when he comes down eventually finishing 2nd. For his 12th consecutive podium dating back to Kvitfjell last season! Wow!! A historic run of dominance across three disciplines, yet the first DH victory still eludes him

  • No Nyman today because of the hand issue.

  • The camels are lively. This course is so much fun, the guys love to ski it and it's definitely one of the most fun from a viewer's perspective.

  • Kriechmayr build 0.25 on the top. He was smoothest through the camels and was best in the tuck on the bottom.

  • Kilde didn't ski like his hair was on fire today. No major mistakes, but not on the limit.

  • Keep an eye on the differential between Kilde and Odermatt (2nd vs 5th) that's a difference of 40 WC points. Odermatt pulls to within 25 points in the DH standings.

  • The Bryce Bennett wood carving. Thoughts?

  • The camels are almost like ski-cross. RCS "worked" the bumps, pressing down on the back side of the rollers. Love that - so unique to this Saslong course.

  • More technical issues with skiandsnowboard.live. We lost the picture for 5-6 racers (bibs 24-28)

  • Rough for Theaux, trying to comeback starting high bibs (#32). But has a nice run to finish 14th!

  • Sam Morse is top American, finishing 10th! He continues the solid skiing from Beaver Creek. One senses the confidence is growing.

  • Stunning run from Nils Allegre skiing into 8th from bib 51.

  • Shortened DH course today, they're using the SG start today. Saturday is expected to be the full DH course.

  • Peter Graves was the announcer on skiandsnowboard.live today. Did he ever announce himself? Did he sign off? I had to look at his LinkedIn page to confirm it was him. With the announcers changing almost weekly it's important to say who you are! Love Graves's voice though, I could listen to him read the phonebook.

  • Interesting to note how racers came through the finish. Some went to the far right, while most favored skiers left.
